While Aries energy serves nicely to get you thinking about the kind of person you want to be, what you want to be doing and how you want to be showing it, the Taurus energy that follows will help you to manifest these ideas; Taurus is an earth sign, and it deals primarily with thoughtfulness over decisions and purpose in action. Taurus natives are decisive, persistent and capable of intense focus. Using the momentum from the fiery Aries resolution and passion will allow you to move from theorizing to moving onward.
I think the idea of “finding happiness” is an incorrect notion, because while finding/having many things will encourage feelings of comfort (financial stability, cool friends, cute dogs to pet, retail therapy, etc) I think that happiness isn’t really about collecting anything. It’s about expelling whatever darkness accumulates inside. It’s about conditioning your brain to put your mindset in the right place and then taking concrete steps to realize your fluffiest, rosiest daydreams.
Mars has recently gone into retrograde, which may challenge you to check in with yourself and how you’re expending your energy. Make sure you take a second look at what/who you are focusing on, and if they are worth your focus. If you’re not receiving the kind of satisfaction or emotional fulfillment you expect from something after pouring your precious energy into it—why continue? Commit yourself to the idea that nothing is permanent and you are fully capable of moving on from anyone/anything that leaves you emotionally exhausted. Leave behind whatever is keeping you from what you want and deserve. Take what is yours.
Another important thing to remember is that you simply cannot be successful or be of any help to others when you are sleep deprived, malnourished, out of shape, spiraling out of control or unwilling to get out of bed. Finding a balance between taking care of yourself and helping others is the only way you can do either one effectively. Refuse to let go of what defines you and don’t make compromises with your wellbeing. Daniel Handler (commonly known as Lemony Snicket) once responded to the question, “what’s your very best life advice?” with this:
One hears it a lot on airplanes: “Make sure you have your own mask on before helping others with theirs.”
One of my own personal goals recently has been to commit myself to the notion that some people are just not worth engaging, and that every situation does not need a reaction. I am a person who has very strong convictions and who dedicates a lot of time to coming to educated conclusions. I want to insert myself into everything, as long as I have fully-formed thoughts on it (another piece of advice: keep ur damn mouth shut about what you don’t know anything about). But the reality is that just like myself, people are stubborn and they are going to do what they want to do. Sometimes you just have to expect nothing and control your emotions.
This season is all about these slight commitments: to thoughts, to ideas, to alliances, to break-ups (both of the romantic and platonic kind), to oxygen masks, to loudness, to refusals and growths. But remember: commitment cannot be an empty promise. It requires action.
Some other mini thoughts/recommendations about staking claims and this season’s mood:
- give yourself something to look forward to that isn’t a person
- get a tiny spontaneous tattoo
- wear big furry coats, even if it’s getting much warmer outside
- bump Kanye West in your headphones as you walk down the street
- pay extra close attention to Chance the Rapper's verse in "Ultralight Beam" because it is everything
- appropriate all emotions
- cut up your favorite jeans and make them your favorite shorts
- tell someone cute that you think about their voice a lot
- colorful eyeshadow is always a good idea
- write poetry and read it out loud
- say that thing you’d normally need to be drunk to say
- remember that bodies carry; they do not define
- remember that standards are bullshit unless they’re your own
- don’t forget that Views drops SO SOON
- choose people who choose you
- getting no answer is also an answer
- a mistake repeated twice is a decision
- take your own advice
- you’re not the only one
- keep going
